Richard J. Winning
January 20, 1912 - January 24, 2002
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church in
Greenwald for Richard Winning, who died Thursday at St. Cloud Hospital.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Patton-Schad funeral
home in Melrose, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church in Greenwald.
Saint Michael’s Mens Society will pray at 7 p.m., followed by parish
prayers at 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Richard Winning was born on January 20, 1912 in Council Bluff, Iowa to Charles and Susanna (Zirbes) Winning. He was united in marriage to Marie Uphus on October 24, 1939 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Greenwald. They farmed near Greenwald until 1963. They moved to Minneapolis and retired in 1977. He moved to Park View Center at Melrose in September of 2000. Richard was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Greenwald, St. Michael’s Men’s Society and Knights of Columbus, Council #1633.
He is survived by his 2 children, Donna Sand and her husband, Jerome of Melrose, Roger Winning and his wife, Marie of Shakopee, 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Winning on March 5, 1999;
sisters and brothers, Margaret Winter, Helen Ohmann, Albert Winning and Leo
Winning; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
