Jeanette Catherine Wilwerding
September 15, 1912 - October 1, 2002
Jeanette C. Wilwerding, age 90
of Freeport, died on Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing
Home in Albany. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB will officiate
with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 to11 a.m.
at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Christian Mothers and the
Golden Years Senior Citizens will pray at 4:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers
at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the church in Freeport.
Jeanette was born on September 15, 1912 in St. Rosa, Minnesota to Joseph
and Mary (Knabel) Wittkop. She was united in marriage to John Wilwerding on
April 28, 1931 in St. Rosa. The couple farmed in Millwood Township all their
lives. Jeanette entered the poultry business with Jack Frost and retired in
1987. She was a caregiver to many and enjoyed quilting, gardening and reading.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and the
Golden Years Senior Citizens of Freeport.
Survivors include her children, Phyllis Anderson and her husband, Jack of
Columbia Heights, Celia Henkels and her husband, Greg of Heron Lake, Glen
Wilwerding of Freeport, Elizabeth “Betty” Atkinson of Freeport; brother,
Virgil Wittkop and his wife, Pat of White Bear Lake; sister, Matilda
“Tillie” McKenny of Albany; 28 grandchildren and 54 great-grandchildren. She
was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilwerding in 1989; brothers, Henry,
Joseph and Larry Wittkop; sisters, Marie Cismoski, Theresa Blommel, Rose
Westbrock and Hilda Wittkop; daughter- in-law, Betty Wilwerding; son-in-law,
Virgil Atkinson; grandchildren, Wayne and Deborah Atkinson.
Serving as casket bearers will be Daniel Atkinson, Jeffrey Atkinson, Joe
Wilwerding, Marty Henkels, Glenn Henkels and Michael Anderson.
Serving as cross bearer will be David Anderson and John Wilwerding as
scripture bearer.
Serving as honorary bearers will be Dorothy Block, Della Klausen, Karen
Goebel, Jan VanHeel, Delores Notch, Elaine Blommel and Vern Finken.
