Lawrence J. Wenning, 96

September 28, 1906 - November 14, 2002

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Melrose for Lawrence J. Wenning, 96, of Melrose who died Thursday at his home. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 3:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be Friday 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lawrence J. Wenning was born on September 28, 1906 in St. Anthony, Minnesota to Bernard and Bernadine (Kluenberg) Wenning. He married Melania A. Beckermann on May 5, 1931 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Freeport. They farmed near New Munich. Lawrence was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad retiring in 1973. He loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and gardening. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Melrose.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Melania Wenning of Melrose; children, LaVonne Weber (Paul) of LeCenter, Mary Ann Meyer (Arnold) of Sauk Centre, Lloyd Wenning (Elaine) of Plymouth, Donald Wenning (Mary) of Melrose, James Wenning (Doris) of Melrose; daughter-in-law, Lorna Wenning of Waconia; brother, Ben Wenning (Bernice) of Albany; sister, Regina Duclos of Albany; sister-in-law, Gen Wenning of Albany; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

        He was preceded in death by his parents; son, LeRoy Wenning; daughter-in-law, Leona Wenning, brothers and sisters, Joseph, Aloys and Isidore Wenning, Rose Schiller and Elizabeth Wenning.

        Serving as casket bearers will be Larry, Lowell, Pat, Ryan and Jason Wenning, and Eric Meyer. Cross bearer will be Arnold Meyer Jr. and scripture bearer will be Brian Meyer.  Honorary bearers will be the granddaughters, Laurie, LuAnn, Denise, Michelle, Patrice, Lisa, Brenda, Sharon, Linda, Nancy, Jill and Jana. The readers will be Mark Weber and Brian Meyer. Serving as servers will be Dan and Loren Wenning.
