Amanda M. Welle, 98

Amanda M. Welle, age 98, of Melrose died Sunday, January 13, 2002 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Services were Wednesday, January 16, 2002 at 11 am at Pine Villa Chapel, Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Burial followed at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, New Munich.

Amanda Welle was born April 1, 1903 in New Munich to Bernard and Elizabeth (Schwieters) Humbert. She married Christ Welle on October 26, 1924 in Spring Hill, Minnesota. She worked with her husband as bookkeeper for The New Munich Hatchery and Feed Store. They sold the store in 1956 and moved to Melrose. She has resided at Pine Villa Care Center since February 1996. She loved to play cards and was very active in the Catholic Aid Association. Amanda was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Melrose, Christian Mothers, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary and Catholic Aid Association.

Survivors include her children, Marion Rehkamp of St. Cloud; Gladys Kleber and her husband, Ray of Hammond, Wisconsin; Robert Welle and his wife, Phyllis of Lewiston, Idaho; Daniel Welle and his wife, Peggy of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christ Welle in May of 1965; daughter, Donna Mae Welle in April of 1955; brothers and sisters, Herman, Ben and Leo Humbert, Elizabeth Sand, Alvina Winter and Olivia Thielen and 3 grandchildren.

Casket bearers were David, Dale, Daniel and John Rehkamp, Chad and Jay Welle. Cross bearer was Ruth Rehkamp. Honorary bearers were grandchildren. Readers were Gretchen Jennissen and Sarah Martin. Memorials are preferred to Pine Haven and Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
