Cyril Henry Schwieters

March 29, 1921 - January 30, 2002

                Cyril H. Schwieters, age 80 of Melrose, died on Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m.  on Saturday, February 2nd  at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser will officate with interment following in parish cemetery.

                Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Joseph’s Society and the Knights of Columbus, Council #1633 will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. on Friday.

                Cyril Schwieters was born March 29, 1921 in New Munich to Joseph and Catherine (Hallermann) Schwieters. He was united in marriage to Olivia Pundsack on October 24, 1944 in New Munich. The couple farmed in the New Munich area until 1985 when they moved to Melrose. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, St. Joseph’s Society in New Munich and the Melrose Knights of Columbus, Council #1633. Cyril enjoyed attending auctions, fishing and going on casino trips. 

                Survivors include his wife, Olivia Schwieters of Melrose; children, Alice Breitbach and her husband, Math of Elrosa, David Schwieters and his wife, Dolores of St. Cloud, Karen Hemmesch and her husband, Math of Paynesville, Ruth Koetter and her husband, Richard of St. Cloud, Joe Schwieters and his wife, Sharon of Greenwald, Irene Zierden and her husband, Roger of St. Joseph, Norman Schwieters and his wife, June of St. Francis, Rueben Schwieters and his wife, Paula of New Munich, Patrick Schwieters and his wife, Cheryl of New Munich, Mark Schwieters and his wife, Karla of Melrose and Joyce Mauel and her husband, Richard of St. Cloud; 32 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma Winter and her husband, Edwin of Holdingford and Bertha Metzger of Westmont, Illinois.

                Cyril was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Schwieters; brothers, Henry, Boniface, Norbert, Gilbert and Roman Schwieters; sister, Clara Bugh.

                Serving as casket bearers will be Daniel Schwieters, Nicholas Schwieters, Aaron Zierden, Jay Hemmesch, Nathan Schwieters and Dean Breitbach.

                Serving as cross bearer will be Lori Peterson and scripture bearer will be Tanner Schwieters.

                Serving as honorary bearers will be Clarence Schaefer, Norbert Schaefer, Walter Sand, Eddie Sand, Herbert Thull, Richard Thull and Albert Kulzer.

                Arrangements are with Patton Schad Funeral Service of Melrose.
