Lee Bernard Schulzetenberg

March 12, 1924 - March 31, 2002

Lee B. Schulzetenberg, age 78 of Melrose, died on Sunday, March 31, 2002 at the Melrose Area Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:30am on Wednesday, April 3rd at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose.  Rev. Ken Thielman will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.

  Friends may call from 4 to 9 pm Tuesday and from 8 to 11am Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose.  Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 7 pm followed by the Queen of Peace Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus standing in honor from 7 to 9 pm and parish prayers at 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home in Melrose.

Lee Schulzetenberg was born March 12, 1924 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, to Gerhard and Clara (Schwegman) Schulzetenberg.  He was drafted to serve with the United States Army during WWII. During his tour in Okinawa he was the recipient of the Purple Heart.  He married Betty Uphus on June 26, 1947 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Greenwald.  The couple farmed near Greenwald for 42 years until retiring and moving to Melrose in 1989.  Lee served on the Spring Hill Township Board and the St. John’s/St. Andrew’s School Board.  Upon retiring from farming he was employed with Rural Community Insurance Service as a Crop Insurance Adjuster.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050, American Legion Post 101 and a member of the Queen of Peace Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.  He was past commander of the Lake Henry American Legion, past Grand Knight of the Melrose Knights of Columbus and a former Faithful Navigator of the Queen of Peace Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his children, Pat Seanger and her husband, Tom of Melrose, Bob Schulzetenberg and his wife, Sandi of St. Cloud, Sheri Rademacher and her husband, Dennis of Melrose, Kathy Haider and her husband, Gary of Elrosa, Rick Schulzetenberg and his wife, Kim of Maple Grove, Kevin Schulzetenberg and his wife, Jane of St. Joseph and Kim Zupan and her husband, Bruce of Prior Lake; 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers Albin Schulzetenberg and his wife, Del of Arizona and Anthony Schulzetenberg and his wife, Mayme of St. Cloud. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerhard and Clara Schulzetenberg; wife, Betty Schulzetenberg on May 14, 2000, and brothers Rev. Robert Schulzetenberg and Wilfred Schulzetenberg.

Serving as casket bearers will be Todd Haider, Brad Haider, Jason Seanger, Jamie Seanger, Kyle Rademacher, Craig Rademacher, Ryan Schulzetenberg and Chad Schulzetenberg.

Serving as cross bearer will be Angela Haider and scripture bearer will be Julie Klaphake.

Serving as gift bearers will be Aaron Schulzetenberg, Shawn Schulzetenberg, Taylor Zupan and Sarah Poegel.

Reading petitions will be Nichole Schulzetenberg, Sally Schulzetenberg, Toni Seanger and Travis Schulzetenberg.

Military rites are provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.

            Arrangements are with Patton-Schad Funeral Service of Melrose.
