Mathilda “Tillie” Poepping, age 79 of Melrose, died on Monday, December 17, 2001at the Pine Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21st at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser will officiate with interment following in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Melrose.
Friends may call from 4-9p.m. Thursday and from 8-11a.m. Friday at the Patton Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Melrose Senior Citizens will pray at 4p.m., Christian Mothers and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary will pray at 7p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8p.m. on Thursday.
Tillie Poepping was born June 5, 1922 in Melrose to John and Mary (Goihl) Thelen. She married Frank Poepping on February 12, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. She lived in Melrose all her life and was employed by the Melrose Hospital and Pine Villa Care Center. She retired in 1987. Tillie was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Melrose Senior Citizens, Christian Mothers and Schanhaar – Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing Bingo and the Minnesota Twins. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Carol Poepping of Melrose, Pat Weisser and her husband, Dan of St. Joseph, Marilyn Rademacher and her husband, Chuck of Big Lake, Kathy Poepping of Melrose, Shirley Knisley and her husband, Jim of Grove City, Jan Haskamp and her husband, Ron of Melrose; brothers, Al Thelen and his wife, Jean of Melrose, Clarence Thelen of Melrose, Melvin Thelen of Melrose, Sylvester Thelen of Melrose, Herb Thelen and his wife, Della of Melrose; 15 grandchildren, Brett, Erik, Jed, Broc, Alyson, Jay, Josh, Erin, Adam, Chad, Jeremy, Travis, Blake, Janna, and Katie; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Abigail, Alexis, Andrew, Jacob, and Baelyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Thelen; husband, Frank on October 20, 1953; brother, Ed Thelen; great-grandson, Connor Dirkes.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Brett Weisser, Erik Weisser, Jed Weisser, Broc Haskamp, Josh Rademacher, Adam Rademacher, Chad Knisley and Jeremy Knisley. Cross bearer will be Alyson Dirkes, scripture bearer will be Erin Rademacher, picture bearer will be Janna Knisley and rose bearer will be Katie Knisley. Mass servers are Jay Haskamp, Travis Knisley, and Blake Knisley. Honorary bearers will be the Melrose Senior Citizens, Christian Mothers and the Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
