Tony J. Moening

October 17, 1911 - September 7, 2002

Tony J. Moening, age 90 of Melrose, died on Saturday, September 7 at the Melrose Area Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Monday 3:30 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 8 – 11:00 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Knights of Columbus will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by Parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Melrose.

Tony Moening was born on October 17, 1911 in Melrose, Minnesota to John and Agnes (Renneker) Moening. He married Renee Otte on October 17, 1938 in Willmar. The couple farmed northeast of Melrose until 1961 when they moved to Melrose. Tony was a bartender at Homer’s Lounge in Melrose from 1961 to 1976. He loved music and was one of the originators of the Melrose Clown Band. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 1633 of Melrose.

Survivors include his children, Diane (Don) Kerfeld of St. Paul; Jane Moening of Braham, and Gary (Rita) Moening of Cold Spring; daughter-in-law, Dianne (Harry) Kerfeld of Freeport; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Marie Welz; Tony was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Renee Moening on November 8, 2001; son, Tom Moening; brothers, George, Fred, Henry, Herman, Bernard, Theodore and Boniface Moening; sister, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Williams.

Serving as casket bearers will be her grandchildren Kim Olberding, Lynn Bjork, Kori Wilwerding, Kirk Kerfeld, Darin and Dana Moening. Cross bearer will be Kelly Notch and scripture bearer will be Karin Hujanen.

Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral Service of Melrose.
