Ella Mary Meyer
September 13, 1907 - November 17, 2002
Ella
Mary Meyer was greeted by her husband, Reinhold, son Leonard, grandson Sherwood
her parents Joseph and Elizabeth Roelike, sisters, Alma and Rosalia Roelike,
Mildred Beste; brothers, Leander and Othmar Roelike on Sunday, November 17,
2002. The cause of death was a result of a fall and quite simply a
large number of 95-year-old parts wearing out. However, her mind was sharp,
alert and probing until her fall that morning.
Ella was enveloped in love by her sons Ernest of Alexandria, Donald (Shirley) of Austin, TX, Elmer (Virginia) of Meire Grove, Maurice (Mary Lou) of Big Lake, Virgil (Joyce) of Burnsville, daughter, Jane (significant other Johnny Canton) of Edina, daughter-in-law, Joan Meyer (Leonard) of Belgrade, sister Evelyn Flohr (Edward) of Oshkosh, WI, seven granddaughters, Diane (Ron) Pierce, Michelle (Ron) Fuchs, Lynette (Marc) Banks, Amy, Charlotte, Cristal and Jennifer Meyer; eight Meyer grandsons, Allen, Gary (Kim), Mark (Melissa), Jon, Jay, Michael, Eric, and Marc; two great granddaughters, Cheryl and Stephanie Pierce; eight great grandsons, Jeremy and David Pierce, Trey Meyer, Grant and Grady Fuchs, Matthew, Travis and Tyler Banks.
Ella was born September 13, 1907 in Lake Henry Township. Her parents moved to a farm two miles west of Melrose in 1909. Ella was twelve years old when her mother passed away at an early age of 37. Her father then married Mary Hinnenkamp, which produced three stepsiblings, Ed, Frances, and Marcella. Ella married Reinhold Meyer, June 27, 1933. Ella and Reinhold belonged to the Meire Grove community until they built their retirement home in Melrose in 1967. Ella moved to a Park View Residence November 1, 1992 and lived there until her death.
Ella enjoyed playing cards-Canasta with her children and "500" with neighbors while on the farm. She played Solo the first several years at Park View, and then played Kings Corners with anyone especially family members. It would be appropriate to refer to her as "Doppler Ella" as her conversation always started with an update of the weather. Ella had a calendar under her recliner, which she used as a reference for the status of the moon's monthly cycle.
Ella was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, St. Elizabeth's Society, Christian Mothers Society and Poor Souls Society.
A memorial mass and celebration of Ella's life was
held on Thursday, November 21 at 11:30am at St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Melrose. Casket Bearers were Lynette Banks, Cristal, Allen, Gary,
Mark, Michael, Eric, and Marc Meyer. Cross bearer was Diane Pierce.
Gift bearers were Jenny and Charlotte Meyer. Petition Reader was Johnny Canton.
