Bob A. Matchinsky

Bob
Matchinsky, age 66, of Garfield, MN, died on Tuesday morning, November 13, 2001
at home after a short battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday,
November 16, 2001 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, MN. Friends may
call from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Patton Schad
Funeral Home in Melrose.
Robert
Alois Matchinsky was born May 4, 1935 in Melrose to Frank “Bud” and Helen
(Flock) Matchinsky. Bob was a 1953 graduate of Melrose High School. He married
Margaret “Meg” Curry on July 6th
1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, MN.
Bob
worked at Honeywell for 42 years and retired in 1996. The family lived in the
northern suburbs of Minneapolis until Bob’s retirement when they moved to
Lobster Lake near Garfield. The family were members of St. Alphonsus Catholic
Church in Brooklyn Center for 30 years. Bob was a member of the Minneapolis
Commodores, a barbershop chorus, from 1975 to 1993. He took part in 5
international competitions and helped the chorus earn 3rd place
medals in 1979. Bob was a music lover and enjoyed music in many forms, from
classical to rock and opera to musicals. Bob was also very interested in
astronomy and spent many evenings observing the stars and pointing out
constellations to companions. Bob’s passion was fishing.
Survivors
include his wife, Meg Matchinsky of Garfield; children, Robert T. of
Minneapolis, Debra and partner Amy Draeger of Minneapolis, Janet of Negril,
Jamaica, David and wife, Cindi of Cambridge and first grandchild, Hunter Robert
expected in March; brothers, Richard Matchinsky and wife, Jacqueline of Tucson,
AZ, Jim Matchinsky and wife, Rose of Melrose, MN and Alan Matchinsky and wife,
Karen of Rosemount, MN; Nieces and nephews and many loving relatives and
friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen Matchinsky.
