Helen Pauline Maritsch

May 16, 1901 - June 20, 2002

Helen P. Maritsch, age 101 of New Munich, died Thursday, June 20, 2002 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22nd at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery. 

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Anne’s Christian Mothers and St. Rita’s Mission Group will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. on Friday.

Helen P. Maritsch was born May 16, 1901 in Oak Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Frank and Catherine (Eiynck) Mayers. She was united in marriage to Henry P. Maritsch on May 10, 1927 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Helen was a cook at the New Munich School for 25 years.  She enjoyed gardening, fishing, crocheting and sitting outside in her lawn swing.  She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, St. Anne’s Christian Mothers, St. Rita’s Mission Group and the Melrose Senior Citizens.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Francella “Fran” Thelen and her husband, Otto of New Munich; sons-in-law, Joe Dobos of Fridley and Clem Jonas of Avon; 13 grandchildren, Butch Dobos and his wife, Mary Lou of Ledgerwood, ND, Jan Nielsen and her husband, Scott of Cottage Grove, Joyce Dobmeier and her husband, Jerry of St. Rosa, Eldred Jonas and his wife, Rosemary of Holdingford, Judy Woitalla of Avon, Kevin Jonas and his wife, Kristi of Avon, Sharon Schwieters and her husband, Joe of Greenwald, June Schwieters and her husband, Norm of Holdingford, Paula Schwieters and her husband, Rueben, New Munich, Lynn Van Drehle and her husband, Alan of New Munich, Scott Thelen and his wife, Carol of New Munich, Kelly Thielen and her husband, Tim of New Munich and Kurt Thelen and his wife, Peg of Burnsville; 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Henry P. Maritsch on August 18, 1951; daughters, Marcelline Dobos and Eileen Jonas; brothers and sisters, Gertrude Keane, Elizabeth Fichtinger, Herman Mayers, Anna Fichtinger, Frances Moser, Joseph Mayers, Eleanor Meyer, Marie Dornblazer and infant, Josephine Mayers.

Serving as casket bearers will be Helen’s grandchildren, June Schwieters, Paula Schwieters, Lynn Van Drehle, Scott Thelen, Kelly Thielen and Kurt Thelen.

Serving as cross bearer will be Sharon Schwieters, angel bearer will be Joyce Dobmeier with Marvin “Butch” Dobos as scripture bearer.

Serving as honorary bearers will be St. Rita’s Mission Group.

Serving as gift bearers will be Jan Nielsen, Eldred Jonas, Judy Woitalla and Kevin Jonas.

Serving as lectors will be Nathan Schwieters and Amber Schwieters.

Arrangements are with Patton-Schad Funeral Service of Melrose.
