Aloys Leukam, 72

May 20, 1929 - March 21, 2002

Aloys H. Leukam, age 72, of Meire Grove died Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Melrose Area Hospital.

Services were 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church, Meire Grove with Rev. Ken Popp officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

            Friends called Sunday from 3:30 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers were be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

            Aloys Leukam was born on May 20, 1929 in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Joseph and Elizabeth (Berling) Leukam. He married Viola M. Mohs on October 19, 1954 at St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Martin. They farmed on Al’s home farm until moving to town in 1999. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Meire Grove. Al served on the Grove Township Board for 30 years. He enjoyed bowling, traveling, playing cards and watching history programs and game shows on T.V.

            Survivors include his wife, Viola Leukam of Meire Grove; 11 children, Pat Janes (Lynn) of El Dorado Springs, Missouri, JoAnn Shepherd (Rod) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Sharon Kleinschmidt (Rick) of Belgrade, Joe Leukam of Melrose, Rick Leukam of Freeport, Mary Vevea (Dave) of Ramsey, Kathy Leukam of Meire Grove, Jan Funk (Bruce) of New Munich, Pete Leukam (Missy) of Sauk Centre, Gail Hiedeman (Doug) of East Bethel and Mike Leukam (Kris) of Melrose; brother and sisters, Dillo Leukam (Irene) of Sauk Centre, Ceil Rieland of Freeport and Verena Uphus (Ed) of Belgrade; 31 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Leo and Albert Leukam and 1 grandchild.

            Casket bearers were Don and Duane Leukam, Patrick Brang, Joel and Chris Kleinschmidt, James and Dennis Mohs and Steve Holtaus. Cross bearer was Judy Wehlage. Scripture bearer was Cody Leukam. Honorary bearers were Tony Ellering, Mike Ludwig, Vincent Haider, Herman Kampsen, Don Mayers, Joe Steinhofer, Anthony Schwieters, Don Wieling, Mike Ellering, James Nathe, Dale Leukam, Richard Thull, David Wenker, Denis Schneider, Richard Imdieke, Sylvarius Rademacher and Herb Inderrieden.
