Ethan R. Kampa, 3

September 23, 1999 - November 24, 2002

Ethan R. Kampa, age 3 of Melrose, died Sunday, November 24, 2002 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Sauk Centre. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Wednesday, November 27th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6 to 9 pm and Wednesday from 8 to 10 am at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ethan Kampa was born on September 23, 1999 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Kevin P. and Sheila M. (Elfering) Kampa. He was born with Open-Lipped Schizencephaly, and against all odds made it to his 3rd birthday. Ethan spent the first 2 ˝ years of his life in and out of  hospitals. He has touched our hearts and many others, in a special way, and those are the days we will cherish forever. Ethan was definitely a gift from God and though there were some difficult days, we wouldn’t trade in a single one. “Our shining star has got his wings. He now can run and play and sing. Be happy, fly free!” Ethan was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Melrose.

He is survived by his parents, Kevin and Sheila (Elfering) Kampa of Melrose; brothers, Mitchell Elfering, Nevik and Paul Kampa at home; grandparents, Harry (Kathy) Elfering of Melrose, Mary Kampa and Larry Chaney of Bloomington.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary Elfering and Duane Kampa.

Casket bearers will be Larry Chaney, Harry Elfering, Daryl Kampa and Greg Elfering.

Cross bearer will be Mitchell Elfering and scripture bearer will be Nevik Kampa.
