Alma Elizabeth Hellermann
December 7, 1913 - February 4, 2003
Alma E. Hellermann, age 89 of Melrose, died on
Tuesday, February 4, 2003 at the Melrose Area Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7th at St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser will officiate with interment
following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. and
Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral home in Melrose. St.
Elizabeth’s Society and the Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. followed by
parish prayers at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Alma was born on December 7, 1913 in Melrose,
Minnesota to Ben G. and Elizabeth (VonWahlde) Hinnenkamp. She was united in
marriage to Paul Hellermann on November 11, 1947 at St. Boniface Catholic Church
in Melrose. Alma and Paul farmed near the Melrose area and later retired and
moved into town. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, spending time at the
cabin and cooking. Alma was the best cook according to her grandchildren. She
was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Elizabeth’s Society and
Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her children, Marian Goebel of
Melrose; Elaine Thom and her husband, Russ of Sauk Centre; John Hellermann and
his wife, Veronica of Melrose; Ralph Hellermann of Melrose; eleven
grandchildren, Jenny Heying and her husband, Jim of Rice, Jeanne Thom of
Bradenton, FL, Jerad Thom and his fiancé, Jeni of Starbuck, Kari, Aaron, Adam
and Kristen Goebel all of Melrose, Dylan, Alex, Jaden and Austin Hellermann all
of Melrose; three great-grandchildren, Brendan and Tristin Ironi and Jessalyn
Thom; brothers, Alvin Hinnenkamp and his wife, Esther of Sauk Centre and Andrew
Hinnenkamp of Melrose.
Alma
was preceded in death by her parents, Ben G. and Elizabeth Hinnenkamp; husband,
Paul Hellermann on July 29, 1995; sister,
Cornelia Wielenberg and brother, Edward Hinnenkamp.
Serving as casket bearers will be grandchildren,
Jim and Jenny Heying, Jeanne and Jerad Thom, Jeni Griener, Kari, Aaron, Adam and
Kristen Goebel.
Serving as cross bearer will be Dylan Hellermann
and Brendan Ironi as scripture bearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
