Bernard "Ben" Bierschbach

Bernard “Ben” Bierschbach, age 88 of Melrose, died on Sunday, December 9, 2001 at his home in Melrose.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 13th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser will officate with inurnment following in parish cemetery. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church in Melrose.
Ben Bierschbach was born on January 22, 1913 in Webster, South Dakota to Chris and Anna (Czmowski) Bierschbach. He married Velna “Val” Schwagerl on June 5, 1941in Browns Valley. The couple lived in Browns Valley and then in Webster, Belle Fourche and Rapid City, S.D., and returned to Browns Valley. They lived in Melrose since 1965. He was employed as a manager for Kraemer Lumber from 1965-1978. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Melrose, Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050, American Legion Post 101, Catholic Order of Foresters and a former member of the Melrose planning and zoning board for many years.
Survivors include his son, Bruce Bierschbach and his wife, Nancy of St. Cloud and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velna on April 1, 1999; son, James Bierschbach; sister, Catherine Johnson.
Military rites provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
