Mathias M. “Math” Bauer, 90, of Albany formerly of New Munich died Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen O.S.B. officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery at New Munich.
Friends may call Thursday from 3:30 – 9 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and Friday at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mathias Bauer was born on January 28, 1912 in St. Martin Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Mathias J. and Appolonia (Schmitz) Bauer. He farmed in St. Martin Township for many years until his retirement to Albany.
He is survived by 7 children, Carol Webb of Friendswood, TX, Virginia Schreifels and Arlene Condon (Tom) of St. Cloud, Patricia Sowada of Sauk Rapids, Robert Bauer (Beverly) of Freeport, Arthur Bauer (Gloria) of Thousand Oaks, CA, Kenneth Bauer (Mary) of Superior, WI; sisters and brothers, Florentine Roelike (Harold) of Melrose, Esther Spring (Gilbert) of Lufkin, TX, Werner Bauer (Carol) of Shoreview; 23 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marcella (Spaeth) Bauer; second wife, Alvina Bredeck; son, Gerald Bauer; brothers and sisters, Hilda Bauer, Irma Councilman, Ann Buschmann, Herb and Roman Bauer; and one grandson, Jeffrey Sowada.
Casket bearers will be Gordy Schreifels, Steve Sowada, Scott Bauer, Randy Schreifels, Jason Bauer and Jim Schreifels. Cross bearer will be Tammy Remillard. Scripture bearer will be Judy Flint. Lectors will be Lori Grams and Cheryl Carlson. Gift bearers will be Brenda Schermerhorn, Sheri Nienaber and Nancy Deaton.
