Florence Austing, age 75, of St. Rosa died Monday, December 16, 2002 at Pine Villa Care Center, Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Rosa with Rev. Roger Klasen, OSB and Rev. Arthur Hoppe officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday after 3:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Christian Mothers and Catholic Aid will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Florence Austing was born on February 8, 1927 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Herman and Walburga (Beste) Frericks. She married Elmer W. Austing on April 25, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. They farmed in Millwood Township for 38 years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic Aid Society and St. Rosa Senior Citizens. She also served on the St. Rosa City Council. Florence enjoyed quilting and gardening.
Survivors include her children, Donald Austing (Marcene) of Melrose, Duane Austing (Beth) of Brooklyn Park, Janet Butkowski (Jerry) of Freeport, Yvonne Blommel (Bill) of Willmar, Darlene Brandt (Steve) of Mankato, Dale Austing (Lisa) of St. Rosa, and Sharon Maciejewski (Ray) of Avon; brothers and sisters, Elmer Frericks (Marcella) of Melrose, Ray Frericks of Sauk Centre, Esther Hinnenkamp (Alvin) of Sauk Centre, Alma Schulte (Justin) of Freeport, Roman Frericks (Annette) of Mountain Iron, Erwin Frericks of Fridley, Louise Haskamp (Donald) of Blaine; and 19 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer Austing on July 23, 1997; sister and brothers, Marie Zwilling, Ambrose and Jerome Frericks.
Casket bearers will be her children, Donald, Duane and Dale Austing, Janet Butkowski, Yvonne Blommel and Darlene Brandt. Cross bearer will be daughter, Sharon Maciejewski and Scripture bearer will be Heather Butkowski.
