What is Spyware?
Spyware
is a generic term typically describing software whose purpose is to collect demographic and usage information from your computer, usually for advertising purposes. The term is also used to describe software that 'sneaks' onto the system or performs other activities hidden to the user. Spyware usually is downloaded as part of software described as "freeware" or “shareware” applications. It is almost always installed on your computer without you knowing it. Several spyware applications have been known to secretly snoop around areas of your computer they don't belong, including your browser history.
Spyware exists as an independent, executable program on your system, and has the capability to do anything any program can do, including monitor keystrokes, scanning files on your hard drive, snoop other applications such as word-processors and chat programs, read your cookies, change your default homepage, determine what Web sites you are visiting, and monitor various aspect of your behaviors. It then can send this information back to the spyware author. All the information obtained can be used by the authors for marketing purposes, or sold to other companies for a profit. This information can then be used for just about anything.
One way to deal with spyware is to download and install a program called Ad-aware. It a free program that blocks most of this spyware, and if it does get on your computer it can remove it. Ad-aware works similar to anti-virus, and will scan your computer for this spyware and remove it. You can download Ad-aware from

Humor Is Good Medicine

My six-year-old grandson called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room.

"But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mother said it was irreplaceable."

The kindergarten class had settled down to its coloring books. Steve came up to the teacher's desk and said, "Miss Merc, I ain't got no crayons."

"Steve," Miss Merc said, "you mean, "I don't have any crayons. You don't have any crayons. We don't have any crayons. They don't have any crayons. Do you see what I'm getting at?"

"Not really," Steve said, "What happened to all them crayons?"
