Page Cannot Be Displayed
One of the most common problem that the Internet Help Desk deals with is the error "Page Cannot be Displayed." This error occurs once you have launched your Internet Explorer browser.  Most persons first reaction is that their Internet Connection is not working properly, but usually that is not the case. You should ask yourself one question, "When I opened up Internet Explorer did it ask me to dial in." If the answer is no, the problem usually is that a setting got changed in your browser and the solution is simple.
What you need to do:
       1. Select the "Tools" menu at the top of Internet Explorer window.
        2. Under the "Tools" menu click on "Internet Options"
       3.
In the "Internet Options" window on the top of the window you      should see a "Connections" tab, click on that.
      4. Under the "Connections" tab, there are three options you can select:
                   1. Never dial a connection
                   2. Dial whenever a network connection is not present
                   3. Always dial my default connection

      5. Make sure that "Always dial my default connection" is selected.
      6. Hit "Apply" on the bottom, and then "OK"
      7.
Close Internet Explorer and reopen it.
      8. You should now get the dial up connection screen.

If you do not get the dial-up connection screen to come up and you are still getting the "Page Cannot be Displayed" please feel free to give the Internet Help Desk a call.

 Tech Tips & Tricks
Do you have problems opening attachments?  When receiving an attachment, the name of the file will be followed by an abbreviated suffix called a "file extension." This tells the recipient's computer what program to use to open the file. If your computer does not have the program used to open the file you will get an error message and you will not be able to see the attachment.  Here is a list of common email attachments and what they mean:
.AIF Audio Interchange File, a sound format used by Macintosh and Silicon Graphics applications
.AVI Microsoft Audio Video Interleaved file for Windows movie
 .BMP Windows or OSI2 bitmap
 .BPS Microsoft Works Document
.DOC FrameMaker, FrameBuilder, WordStar, WordPerfect, Microsoft Word, DisplayWrite, et. al. document

 .EPS

Encapsulated Postscript Vector graphics
.EXE Executable file (program)-These can contain viruses
 .GIF Bitmap (CompuServe)
.HTML Hypertext Mark-up Language- which is a popular web page format
 .JPG JPEG bitmap
 .MP3 MPEG-1 audio layer 3, digital/audio compression algorithm
 .MPG MPEG animation
 .PDF Portable Document Format
 .PPT PowerPoint presentation file
.ZIP Compressed Archive - Zip file

Humor Is Good Medicine
The room was full of pregnant women and their partners, and the class was in full swing.
The instructor was teaching the women how to breathe properly, along with informing the men how to give the necessary assurances at this stage of the plan.
The teacher then announced, "Ladies, exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. And, Gentlemen, it wouldn't hurt you to take the time to go walking with your partner!!!"
The room really got quiet.
Finally, a not-so-bright man in the middle of the group mustered the nerve raised his hand.
"Yes?" replied the teacher.
"Is it all right if she carries a golf bag while we walk?"

A husband stepped on one of those penny scales that tell you your fortune and weight and dropped in a coin.
"Listen to this," he said to his wife, showing her a small, white card.
"It says I'm energetic, bright, resourceful and a great husband."
"Yeah," his wife nodded, "and it has your weight wrong, too!"

Questions & Answers

Q: What does the "History" button  on my browser toolbar do?

A: Each time you access a website, your browser automatically stores the website in a History file. To access your browser's History file using Internet Explorer, click on the History button at the top of your browser's toolbar.  Once you have clicked it, a window on the right side will appear.  In this window you will see a list of recently viewed websites.  To view a website within the History window just double click on the website you would like to view.  To close the History window just click on the History button in the browser toolbar.

-If you are using Netscape's Communicator, go to the "Communicator" file menu located at the top of your browser and drop down to "Tools."  Select "History" from the submenu.  The History window will appear. Once you find the site you would like to visit, just double click it.  The History window will be minimized and the web page will open in a new window.
