Cannot Open Attachments in Outlook Express

With the release of Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.0 Service Pack 1, you may experience some difficulties when it comes to opening up attachments. When you upgrade your Internet Explorer browser to this service pack, a message saying “Outlook Express has removed access to the following attachment,” will more than likely appear. Microsoft has enabled this feature by default when you install the service pack. By following the steps listed below, you should once again be able to view all of the attachments you receive in your email.

  1. Open the Outlook Express email program on your computer.
  2. Click on the Tools menu
  3. Select Options from the list.
  4. Click on the Security tab at the top.
  5. There will be a setting that states, “Do not allow attachments to be opened or saved that could potentially be a virus.”
  6. Next to that, there will be a check box.
  7. Uncheck this box.
  8. Click Apply, and then OK.
  9. Try opening the attachment again.

By changing this setting, you should now be able to open all of your attachments without any problems.

Top 5 Windows Tips For Beginners

TIP #1. Right-click on anything and everything. Its really hard to do any damage with the right mouse button in Windows, because it's designed only to show a context menu (a list of options appropriate for the selected object). One of the options is Properties ( usually the last option on the context menu), which gives you access to different settings and information about the object that you Right-clicked on.

TIP #2.Your mouse is your most valuable tool. Look closely at your mouse cursor while you're moving it around, take notice that it is not always an arrow. For example when you hold your mouse over a icon for several seconds there may be a tip that pops up next to your mouse giving your information on the icon that your mouse is currently underneath the cursor.

TIP #3. Pressing F1 in most situations will either display a detailed  instructions or a  brief descriptions. Also with help you can always use the built in search feature to find specific help on specific topics

TIP #4. Shortcuts A shortcut is a file that lets you open a program without having to search out the location the program on your entire hard disk. Shortcuts can be made for any program, document, drive, or folder by either thee dragging and dropping method ( just drag what you want to be a short cut and drop it on the desktop) or by using the right mouse method.

TIP #5. The Recycle Bin is the place that all files go when you delete them off your computer. If you delete a file off of your computer it will automatically go into the Recycle Bin, so its not really deleted for good until you empty your recycle bin. So if you make a mistake and delete a file from your machine you can usually recover the file from within the Recycle Bin.

Humor Is Good Medicine
While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about six years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, "Are you a police officer?"

"Yes," I answered, and continued writing the report.

"My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?"

"Yes, that's right," I told her.

"Well, then," she said as she extended her foot toward me, "would you please tie my shoe?"

Anti-Virus Software

To all Internet customers... Is your Anti-Virus Software up-to date?

For those of you who currently own Anti-Virus Software, make sure that your Software is up-to date.  Just because it is installed on your computer, doesn’t mean that it is protecting your computer from viruses. You still need to do virus definition update, at least on a weekly basis.  Also, to make sure that your Software is doing its job, check to see if your software is subscription based. Which means, each year you have to purchase upgrades to your anti-virus software. For example...If you bought Norton Anti-virus software last December, you were able to receive free updates on the virus protection until this December.

Now that a year has been up, you need to purchase another year’s subscription. (see your anti virus software documentation for specifics on how your subscription works) Once you have purchased your subscription for the year, you STILL NEED TO DO THE UPDATE  FOR THE MOST RECENT VIRUS PROTECTION, AND RUN THE VIRUS SCAN either weekly, or monthly.  It is very important that you run your virus scans faithfully!!

For those of you who do not own anti-virus software, please wrap it up for Christmas and put it under the tree!

Questions & Answers

Q: How do you print out a photo you receive from an e-mail?

A: The best way to print out a photo you have received in an email is to save it first and print it out from a different program, such as Microsoft Word.  To save the photo double click on the email that has the photo attached.  Then click on the attachment, right click and select SAVE ALL, select the folder where you want your picture saved.  Now that you saved your picture, you can open up Microsoft Word. Select INSERT> (on the top toolbar) PICTURE> From File browse to the folder where you saved your picture in.  Double click on your photo and it should be inserted in Microsoft Word.  Now you can select FILE>PRINT.
